Storing and Handling Research-Grade Exosomes

← Back to Research Library

Research-grade exosomes are sensitive biological materials, and how they are stored and handled affects their integrity. For laboratories and practices working with these materials, proper cold-chain practice is part of preserving quality. This overview is provided for educational and research purposes only.

Why storage conditions matter

Like many biological preparations, MSC-derived exosomes are typically kept frozen to preserve their characteristics until use. Temperature excursions and repeated freeze-thaw cycles are generally avoided in research practice because they can affect a preparation’s integrity.

General cold-chain principles

  • Follow the storage temperature specified by the supplier for each product
  • Minimize freeze-thaw cycles; aliquot where appropriate
  • Maintain the cold chain during shipping and receiving
  • Document handling so each lot’s history is traceable

Storage is part of the quality chain

Sourcing, manufacturing, and a per-lot Certificate of Analysis establish a material’s quality; correct storage preserves it. A supplier should provide clear handling and storage instructions alongside the product.
