Understanding Exosome Particle Counts and Concentrations
Research-grade exosome products are often described by a particle count — for example, billions of particles per dose. Understanding what these numbers mean, and what they do not, helps when comparing preparations. This overview is provided for educational and research purposes only.
What \”particles per dose\” describes
A particle count reflects the concentration of vesicles in a preparation, typically measured by methods such as nanoparticle tracking analysis. It is one objective, quantifiable property of MSC-derived exosomes and is commonly reported on a Certificate of Analysis.
Why count alone is not the whole story
Particle concentration is meaningful only alongside the other measurements that define a preparation — size distribution, identity, purity, and sterility. A high particle count from an uncharacterized source tells you less than a documented count backed by full characterization. Numbers should be interpreted in context, not in isolation.
How to compare preparations fairly
- Compare counts measured by the same or comparable methods
- Confirm the count appears on a per-lot, third-party COA
- Read the count alongside size, purity, and sterility data
- Treat unverified \”potency\” claims with appropriate skepticism
